Port State Control Examiner Practice Test

In PSC, hazardous cargo compliance is verified by looking at three interconnected elements: the IMDG-related documentation, the Cargo Securing Manual, and the cargo stowage practices. The IMDG documentation confirms that the dangerous goods are properly identified, packaged, labeled, and described, with the required declarations and emergency information in place. The Cargo Securing Manual shows the approved methods for securing loads, including lashings, dunnage, and procedures to prevent movement during voyage. Finally, cargo stowage practices ensure the actual placement, segregation, and compatibility of hazardous goods on board, as well as their arrangement to maintain stability and reduce risk from heat, leakage, or contact with incompatible substances.

Together, these three aspects cover what’s needed: proper paperwork, correct securing methods, and appropriate on‑deck or in‑hold arrangement. Options that omit either documentation or securing or stowage fail to address the full scope of hazardous cargo safety that PSC assesses.
